Swordmaster efficiently performs as one of the most vital classes in Dungeonborne in terms of offensive and destructive power. This job requires gamers to bring tons of swords for their abilities and attacks, and they are considered resource-hungry. Players know that Swordmasters are some of the most capable duelists in the game and can easily win most PvP fights. However, gamers will need the right builds to make the most out of this class and maximize its damage.

Swordmaster Overview

Swordmasters are powerful sword-wielders with access to many bladed abilities that deal lots of damage. They have good dueling skills and are adept at ranged and melee combat. While they can wield both one-handed and two-handed weapons, players will need tons of one-handed swords when using this class to use their abilities. Here are all the skills that this job has access to:

  • Psionic Blades: Instantaneously summon four Psionic Blades that will consume blades from the class-specific sword slots and shoot them toward enemies. This attack deals significant damage and restores a small percentage of HP. The type of damage depends on the type of sword used and consumed.
  • Whirling Blade: Conjures up a Psionic Sword that swirls around your body and deals a small amount of damage per hit for eight seconds. The type of damage is based on the sword type used and will be consumed after activating the skill.

Additional Info: Psionic Blades uses more blades the longer you charge it. However, the cooldown will depend on how many swords you use. Here is the breakdown:

  • Four Swords: 30 seconds cooldown
  • Three Swords: 20 seconds cooldown
  • Two Swords: 10 seconds cooldown
  • One Sword: 2.5 seconds cooldown

The Swordmaster only has two active skills that cannot be swapped out. These abilities deal reliable damage and perform exceptionally in a PvP setting. However, their main drawback is that they use one-handed swords you pick up as resources for their activation. Gamers usually bring about six to 12 swords when running this class to ensure they can easily activate their skills when needed.

While gamers can only rely on two skills, the Swordmaster can access several passive bonuses that significantly increase its dueling efficiency. Most of these perks are offense-oriented and can make players sustain themselves in prolonged fights or finish off their enemies instantly. Here are all the passives of the Swordmaster:

  • Momentum (35 Dexterity): Increase your critical strike chance by a moderate amount for five seconds after hitting an enemy with Psionic Blades
  • Crippling Strike (72 Dexterity): Reduce the movement speed of enemies by a small amount for five seconds
  • Healing Scabbard (54 Strength): Increase the amount of Life Recovery by a significant portion when using Psionic Swords
  • Deflection (36 Stamina): Gain moderate damage reduction during the duration of Whirling Blade
  • Flurry of Blades (27 Will): Reduce the cooldown of Psionic Blades after simultaneously shooting three or four swords

Most of these stats focus on increasing your offensive capabilities. However, we still want to invest in some of the more defensive perks to improve your sustainability. Because there are limited ways to increase your attributes, we must focus our build and resources on growing the right bonuses.

Best Stats for Swordmaster

We want to invest our resources in all available stats except Intelligence. However, at the beginning, we want to focus on Strength and Stamina first. We like these two attributes first because Healing Scabbard and Deflection make us extremely durable when they are activated.

Healing Scabbard helps us recover faster in and out of fights by increasing our life recovery. Deflection gives us a 50% damage reduction, providing excellent durability in duels. With both passive actives, you can be a tank with the offensive powers of a rogue DPS.

Once you've obtained these two, you can focus on increasing your Will and Dexterity. The former should be our third priority because it lets us cast Psionic Blades more times by reducing its cooldown. Momentum is the next pickup because it increases our Critical Chance Hit. You make all your attacks deal crit damage, which is excellent in both PvP and PvE. Crippling Strike is an okay perk to get, but you don't miss out if you don't get it. It only enhances your chase-down capabilities, so you should only take it as the last bonus.

Best Weapons for Swordmaster

Despite having access to 2H weapons, we prefer that Swordmasters mainly use dual blades. Dual wielding gives us faster and more lethal DPS that lets us follow up on our initial attacks. While 2H weapons can let us stagger opponents and reach a broader range, two swords will help us focus on a single target with much better efficiency. Since our main strength is dueling, single-target attacks should be our focus.

However, 2H weapons are still viable, especially in a group setting. You can hit more enemies with your power attacks and have more opportunities to attack opponents while teammates grab the enemies' attention. Generally, Dual Wielding is better in Solo Play, while 2H becomes a viable, but the primary, option in a group setting.

How to Play Swordmaster

Your playstyle will differ depending on whether you are doing PvP or PvE. It further differentiates if you are playing alone or in a group. You only want to use your skills when fighting against monsters if it's a boss. Your swords are significant and scarce resources, so using them on low-level mobs would be a waste. You should only use your skills in PvE when you need them to save your life. Even against bosses, you must rely mainly on your basic attacks and blocking abilities to preserve your ammo for potential duels.

PvP Setting

Your approach in PvP will be wholly different than in PvE. When engaging in a duel against real players, you’ll need to determine if you’ve been spotted so you’ll know how many charges to use with your Psionic Blades. If you haven't been spotted and you know you have a free shot, all four blades can deplete their HP instantly if they all hit. However, if an enemy has already spotted you or you’re in the middle of the fight, consider using only one or two charges.

You only want to use one charge at a time when chasing enemies, especially against Rogues. Trying to hit all four stacks in one go while in the chase will result in longer cooldowns, and it becomes inefficient if you don't hit all four swords. Doing one at a time increases your chances of hitting all skill shots.

Once you unleash your initial barrage of Psionic Swords, you must follow it up by entering melee combat, but you must activate Whirling Blade beforehand. Popping this skill lets you deal more damage in close quarters and bypass blocks by hitting the side of enemies, ensuring your DPS upkeep. If you have the Deflection passive active, Whirling Blade also ensures you take less damage in the thick of a melee fight.

You should carefully manage how many swords you use with Psionic Blades, especially when you are low on resources. You must ensure you have at least one blade for Whirling Blade because you need this ability in all fights. In most situations, you would only pop two charges of Psionic Blade, then use Whirlwind right after. The last sword should be reserved for mid-fights or when chasing someone down.

Psionic Blade is an excellent way to recover HP when you reach critical levels with your HP. Aside from dealing damage, you can regain health if you hit enemies if you have Healing Scabbard active. However, it would help if you didn't get too confident because of this. Ideally, you want to preserve HP with the Whirlwind Blade and block it while the Psionic Blades are on cooldown. Once it is up, you can quickly disengage and charge up your Q skill before firing a whole barrage at enemies to recover as much HP as possible. This tactic is beneficial when re-engaging enemies.

Solo Vs. Teamplay

You can go crazy with your skills when you are doing solo play. However, it would help if you were more conservative when playing in a team, especially with other classes that require swords. Swordmasters exhaust their supply of blades like candy, so they must constantly resupply their stash with loot found on the way if they are very trigger-happy. This behavior can harm your team because they also need these drops.

Swordmasters should be more accurate and careful when using Psionic Blades so they won't quickly run out of ammo. Choosing the right time to use them can help preserve your blades. In addition, you’ll have to be careful when using your skills, as Swordmasters tend to deal friendly fire. Make sure you don't use Psionic Blades when you have teammates in front of you. On top of this, make sure you are far away from your party before activating Whirling Blade so that they don't take any friendly fire.
