The Priest class is Dungeonborne’s take on the support role, providing themselves and their teammates with healing, protection, and buffs while in a raid. Since this class can be very powerful when used in the right hands, learning how to play them is crucial to maximizing their performance as support. We will show you how the Priest class works and how you can build them to be at their peak.
Priest Skills
The Priest class eschews offensive gameplay in exchange for powerful support spells that can greatly aid teams in combat. With the healing, damage reduction, and even battle resurrection that they provide, teams with a Priest will be very lethal to face off, as they can undo all the damage dealt to them in seconds.
The Priest has 4 skills to choose from. Their first skill, Divine Guidance, channels divine energy to summon an oracle at the designated location. After a brief delay, it heals friendly targets and deals active Holy damage to enemy targets within the area. The healing effect has a chance to critical strike. This spell requires an Orb or Staff to activate. If the Priest has the Resurrection passive active, Divine Guidance will revive downed teammates, but this can only be done once per raid.
Their second skill, Cleanse, channels the healing power and casts to friendlies or yourself. This spell can be channeled longer for a stronger healing effect.
Their third skill, Divine Protection, instantly activates to apply a Divine Shield to a friendly target, making them immune to all damage for 3 seconds. This spell can be applied to self by pressing the F key.
Their last skill, Guard, instantly applies a shield to friendly targets and yourself for 60 seconds.
Priest Passives
- Cleansing Rites: At 38 Faith, the Divine Guidance can now cleanse all debuffs on target while also being immune to all debuffs in a short duration.
- Resurrection: At 75 Faith, Divine Guidance can now resurrect a fallen ally — this can be performed while in combat to quickly recover and continue the fight. This passive can only be used once per adventure but will reset when taking a corrupted portal to a deeper level of the adventure.
- Faithful: At 30 Stamina, you restore a small amount of mana when landing a critical hit on an enemy.
- Benediction: At 48 Intelligence, Divine Protection and Guard will now have two extra charges.
- Recompense: At 24 Dexterity, receiving any healing from the Priest also grants a burst of movement speed.
Best Weapons for Priests
Like all other cleric or priest classes in most fantasy games, this one exclusively uses maces as their primary weapon, along with a shield. Priests can also utilize Staves and Orbs in their kit, which should always be their secondary weapon. While the Mace has good damage and can strike repeatedly, it has a slow recovery speed. Against other melee weapons, the Mace isn’t ideal in 1v1 fights.
For your off-hand weapon, using an Orb is ideal as not only does it serve as an emergency shield, but it grants your melee weapon an energy wave when swinging. This is best for Priests as they are intrinsically lacking in any support power, so you have some means of defending yourself in case you have to fight directly.
As for your secondary weapon, any Staff will do fine. This is more a matter of preference since there aren’t as many uses with a Staff for Priest as other caster classes have.
Best Priest Gear Affixes
When sorting your loot after a raid, make sure to look for these affixes to equip in your character, as these can go a long way in your progression as a Priest:
- +Faith
- +Strength
- Healing Bonus
- Shielding Bonus
- Skill Cooldown Reduction
- Shield When Using a Skill
- Additional Defense Level
Since damage isn’t as important as augmenting your support capabilities, getting offense-oriented affixes won’t help your gameplay as a Priest as much.
Priest Playstyle for PvE and PvP
When playing as a Priest, the worst thing you can do is play solo, as Priests require the aid of their team to get some loot and extract alive. It is ill-advised to fight other players alone, as most classes in Dungeonborne can easily burst down your health even with the shields and healing you could give yourself. However, when you are paired with some reliable teammates, you can turn your squad into the most oppressive group in the lobby. Since you are playing a support player, you shouldn’t be taking the first person engaging the enemy; instead, you should hang back a bit and only join the fight once your spells are on cooldown. Every strategy mentioned here should always be done with some friends to coordinate tactics with.
In PvE, it’s better if you let your other teammates draw aggro from dungeon mobs while you go behind it and hit it with your mace. If your party member ever takes damage from a monster, make sure to give them some healing, as future fights against other players are always decided by who has more health among them. If you ever need to take down a dungeon boss like the Cyclops or Wendigo, your shield spells will come in handy, especially when your party is underequipped for it. If you have brought a staff with you, it’s best that you use it to help your team in killing it should your team not need any healing.
As for PvP, make sure to give your entire party Divine Protection and Guard as soon as they engage an enemy player since the shield only lasts 3 seconds. This shield not only absorbs any damage your teammate may take, but it also causes your enemies to waste their attack if they try and attack the shield. If you have a Rogue or Pyromancer member in your squad, the shield will deter smarter opponents from trying to attack, forcing them to wait for the shield to drop. This also gives your ranged members an opportunity to shoot at the enemy player.
While other classes like Death Knight and Cryomancers are strong in a team, they are only exclusive to the Undead race, which intrinsically cannot receive any healing from your spells. Undead players cannot benefit from Priest spells due to the conflict of holy magic being used on unholy creatures. If they’re in your party, save your spells for the human and elf players, as using them on the undead will not work and is a waste of precious mana.
