- Rogue Playstyle for PvE and PvP
The Rogues of Dungeonborne utilize the element of stealth and guerilla tactics. Unlike the Fighter, who prefers to fight up close, or the Pyromancer, who uses ranged spells, the Rogue is an opportunistic class that makes quick work of their enemies before they can even respond to the threat they face. In this guide, we’ll talk about the Rogue’s abilities, passives, builds, and playstyles to become the ultimate Rogue in the lobby.
Rogue Skills
The Rogue’s first skill is Petrifying Poison. When cast, this coats the current right-hand weapon held with poison. Once a successful attack is landed, the target hit will be immobilized and take 100% reduced incoming damage. The petrification ends when the target takes a hit.
The second skill in their toolkit is Vanish. After channeling for 4 seconds, the Rogue becomes invisible. While invisible, the Rogue can freely interact with objects like doors, treasure chests, and torches. Dungeon monsters will be unable to detect the player while invisible. This skill ends when the Rogue makes an attack, but will be a guaranteed critical hit.
Rogue Passives
The passives in its toolkit incentivize hit-and-run tactics, adding extra utilities for the Petrifying Poison and Vanish skills.
- Evaporate: At 62 Dexterity, Rogues automatically enter stealth after landing a killing blow on an enemy. This effect is identical to self-cast Vanish.
- Featherfoot: At 93 Dexterity, Rogues gain bonus movement speed while in stealth.
- Ambush: At 29 Strength, Rogues gains a burst of life steal that applies to the next attack that breaks stealth.
- Toxic Bolts: At 60 Strength, Petrifying Poison can now be applied to ranged weapons.
- Toxic Cloak: At 36 Stamina, Rogues can enter stealth after a successful Petrifying Poison attack
Best Weapons for Rogues
When it comes to weaponry, Rogues have access to daggers, crossbows, and one-handed swords. It goes without saying that a crossbow would be the ideal primary weapon for any Rogue player, as this gives you the best advantage in a head-on fight. When facing any melee classes like Fighters, Death Knights, and Priests, getting the first hit in an engagement is the biggest reason why most players win fights in the first place.
Daggers are also a great primary weapon for Rogues due to their extremely fast swing speed and easy moveset. Even with the lack of defensive options like a shield, most daggers will still kill enemy players by virtue of sheer DPS. Added with the guaranteed critical hit upon exiting stealth, many Rogues can win fights before an enemy player can react in time.
Best Rogue Gear Affixes
When choosing gear based on their affixes, try to get these when building your Rogue character:
- +Dexterity
- +Stamina
- +Strength
- +Weapon Damage
- Skill Cooldown Reduction
- +Physical Penetration
- Life Steal Out of Combat
- Life Regen Out of Combat
Rogue Playstyle for PvE and PvP
Throughout PvE and PvP, stealth is your biggest advantage when engaging with all types of enemies. Since the Rogue cannot wear heavy armor and must stick with cloth ones, direct combat is not the ideal scenario to be in when playing this class. While the Rogue class holds up well in combat, this class is better suited for the “rat” playstyle, which involves avoiding conflict and focusing purely on extracting with gear and treasure. However, if you must fight, there are different ways to approach combat as a Rogue.
In PvE, using your speed to circle strafe dungeon mobs and going for backstabs is great for conserving your skills and saving up on precious resources. While you can use your crossbow to pepper enemies at range, this safety comes at the cost of time, as the crossbow’s reload speed is very low. Petrifying Poison is also good for getting rid of more dangerous monsters, as this allows you to get a few free hits on them before they can turn to attack you.
In PvP, this is where the class truly shines at. Since Dungeonborne is all about playing smart, the Rogue gives you the best tools to avoid and start fights at your own pace while keeping your opponent guessing at what your next play is. Vanish is a powerful skill to utilize when picking a fight, as this will give you an advantage in combat. Petrify Poison is also good for throwing enemies off-guard since the immobilization will pressure anyone, especially when they have taken the first hit from you.
Be careful, as the Vanish skill has a long cooldown of 1 minute, so make sure to use it wisely. Popping Vanish too early or too late will leave you more vulnerable and will severely weaken you in player encounters.
If you happen to play in a group session, Petrifying Poison is one of the best ways to remove an entire enemy player from the fight, as the Petrification effect lasts for a while. In 3v3 scenarios, the enemy will be too focused on dealing with your teammates, giving you time to flank around and sow discord with Petrifying Poison.
